Although it may not feel like it in these chilling temperatures, the start of spring is just over a month away on March 20. To get a head start on enjoying the beauty of the season, visit the conservatories in Garfield Park and Lincoln Park, both of which recently premiered their spring flower displays.
Garfield Park Conservatory
The Garfield Park Conservatory kicked off its newest exhibit Rooted in Mystery, a flower show that highlights the most overlooked part of the flower, the roots. Guests will learn about the different types of roots and what they do, as well as enjoy the display of spring plants such as azaleas, pansies, snapdragons, daffodils, 26 types of tulips and more. While you’re there, explore the entirety of the conservatory’s two acres of public greenhouse space, especially the Aroid House, where you’ll find a koi pond adorned by famous glass artist Dale Chiuly’s Persian Lillies.
The conservatory is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Reservations are required to enter the conservatory. Admission is free for Chicago residents and $10 for non-residents aged 18-64; $5 for children 7-17, college students with ID and seniors; and free for children under 6. Lincoln Park Conservatory
The Lincoln Park Conservatory’s 2025 spring flower show celebrates the vibrant colors of the season with Spectrum of Spring. The event highlights the color families of plants and flowers, such as the classic tulip, Delft blue hyacinths and golden yellow crocus. Also boasting four display houses, visitors are welcome to travel to a warmer place without getting on a plane with displays of exotic plants, tropical palms and ancient ferns.
The conservatory is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations for timed entry are required. Click here to learn more.
Both exhibits run through May 11.
