This weekend marks the 2022 James Beard Awards. The James Beard Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in the culinary world, honoring outstanding creators in the culinary and food media industries nationwide.
The three day long event will take place across the weekend of June 11 – June 13.
Media Awards
The James Beard Media Awards, honoring broadcast media, cookbook, and journalism nominees, will be held Saturday, June 11 at 5:00 p.m. in Columbia College Chicago Student Center.
JBF Award Ceremony
The event resumes Monday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m., beginning with the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards hosted at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Following is the James Beard Post-Awards Celebration starting at 9:00 p.m. in Union Station.
Chicagoland Nominees
The awards will feature nine nominees from the Chicago area.
Jason Vincent of Giant restaurant has been nominated for Outstanding Chef. Located in the Logan Square neighborhood, Giant specializes in Midwestern favorites and craft cocktails.
Parachute, located in Avondale, has been nominated for Outstanding Restaurant. The neighborhood restaurant features Korean-American cuisine and a selection of wine and cocktails.
Kasama has been nominated for Best New Restaurant. Located in the East Ukrainian Village neighborhood, Kasama is a modern Filipino bakery.
Maya-Camille Broussard of Justice of the Pies has been nominated for Outstanding Baker. Based in the New Eastside Neighborhood, Justice of the Pies specializes in a variety of pies, quiches, and tarts.
Nobody’s Darling, a black-owned LGBTQ+ bar located in the Edgewater neighborhood, has been nominated for Outstanding Bar Program.
Four Chicago chefs have been nominated for Best Chef Great Lakes Region. Jason Hammel of Lula Cafe, Noah Sandoval of Oriole, John and Karen Urie Shields of Smyth, and Erick Williams of Virtue Restaurant & Bar.
