Hot Chocolate Run Chicago (Nov. 3)

Savor This: Known as “America’s sweetest run,” the Hot Chocolate Run returns to Chicago with four courses (5K, 10K, 15K and a two-mile walk). Starting in Grant Park, runners will pass through some of the city’s landmarks before finishing with a post-run party featuring chocolate fondue and dippables. Registration includes a cozy jacket, hot chocolate, a finisher’s medal and more.

Lincoln Park ZooLights (Nov. 15 – Jan. 5, 2025)

Nighttime Wonder: Now in its 30th year, ZooLights transforms Lincoln Park Zoo into a nighttime winter wonderland with 3 million lights, live ice carvings and carolers. Warm up with coffee or hot cocoa as you stroll through festive holiday pop-ups. Admission is free on most Mondays with online registration, and $7-10 on other nights.

Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer (Nov. 22 – 23)

What to Know: With more than 350 offerings, the Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer gathers craft breweries from across the country to compete in 13 categories. Hosted at Credit Union 1 Arena on UIC’s campus, tickets grant access to a four-hour session. Join the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild’s membership, ImBIBE, to gain exclusive early entry and sample unique brews before the crowds arrive.

Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival (Nov. 23)

The Details: The annual Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival kicks off Chicago’s holiday season with a day of fun. Visit Light Festival Lane for free activities, then stay for the parade as Michigan Avenue’s trees are illuminated by more than a million lights. The festivities end with a spectacular fireworks display over the Chicago River.

Christkindlmarket (Nov. 22 – Dec. 24)

Why Drop By?: Inspired by traditional German outdoor holiday markets, Christkindlmarket fills Daley Plaza with the sights, smells and sounds of the season. Indulge in German street food while shopping for gifts from around the world. Don’t forget to warm up with cider, cocoa or spiced wine served in a collectible souvenir mug.

Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade (Nov. 28)

Holiday Tradition: For 90 years, the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a cherished local institution. The parade marches through the heart of the Loop, featuring giant floats, cultural performances, equestrian units and special guests. Grab a spot along State Street and enjoy the festive spectacle.

North Shore Turkey Trot (Nov. 28)

Get Moving: Celebrate Thanksgiving in Highland Park with the North Shore Turkey Trot, offering a 5K, 10K and Kids’ Trot. The whole family can join in before sitting down for the big feast. After the race, enjoy the Turkey Trot Tailgate with apple cider, pie, music and more seasonal fun.

One of a Kind Show and Sale (Dec. 5 – 8)

Shop This: The One of a Kind Show and Sale is the pinnacle of holiday shopping. More than 600 artists and designers take over The Mart, offering handmade gifts ranging from ceramics and sculpture to fashion and beauty products. New Year’s Eve Fireworks at Navy Pier (Dec. 31)

Ring It In: Bid farewell to 2024 and welcome in the New Year with a stunning fireworks display at Navy Pier. Arrive early to secure a spot and watch as the sky lights up over Lake Michigan at midnight. The fireworks are free and open to the public, making it a memorable way to start 2025.
