It’s that time of year where Michelin publishes their distinguished list of restaurants that have received stars and those that are worthy of being a Bib Gourmand eatery. We compared the list with our Concierge Favorites lists, and both agree on a lot of restaurants.
There are so many great restaurants in Chicago that it would be difficult to find a bad meal anywhere in the city. So when you’re trying to make a pick the more recommendations the better, and Michelin and the city’s concierge seem to agree on at least 11 restaurants that are standouts. The restaurants are:
- Bohemian House
- Au Cheval
- Avec
- Girl and the Goat
- GT Fish & Oyster
- The Purple Pig
- Untitled
- Grace
- Blackbird
- Boka
- Dusek’s
These 11 restaurants are both in the 2016 Michelin Guide and 2014 and/or 2015 Concierge Favorite lists, and you can see why.
Concierge Shannon Boland includes Blackbird, Au Cheval, The Purple Pig, and GT Fish & Oyster alone as part of course-hopping guide to Chicago. Former concierge Sean Patrick Wagner cheered Dusek’s, who won their first star this year, for their excellent beer program that pairs well with their crispy pork shank, sweetbreads, and choucroute. Avec and Girl and the Goat have always been West Loop favorites that have helped define Chicago’s food scene. Untitled has always been a standout for their cocktails and atmosphere. Grace, one of two three-star restaurants in the city, is noted by both concierge and Michelin for the signature style and creativity of chef Curtis Duffy. Concierge consider the grilled chicken paprikash with pickled sweet peppers, kale, and Czech potato dumplings as an ideal fall dish at Bohemian House. Finally, Boka’s food and atmosphere always make for a romantic night out.
Both lists have mouthwatering restaurants aside from these 11 like Topolobampo, El Ideas, Alinea, Mercat a la Planxa, Belly Shack, and many more.
