LIVE PERFORMANCES

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra brings together fifteen of the world’s finest ensemble members, arrangers, and soloists. NEA Jazz Master Wynton Marsalis leads the renowned group.

This multi-day event at Symphony Center will begin by commemorating the 125th anniversary of Duke Ellington’s birth with an opening performance on April 24 at 8:00 p.m. The concert will feature music from this composer and celebrate his musical influence. Included with ticket purchase, guests are invited to arrive early for a conversation featuring Seton Hawkins, Director of Public Programs and Education Resources from Jazz at Lincoln Center. Come to Orchestra Hall 75 minutes before the performance for approximately 30 minutes of riveting discussion.

Last in Chicago in 2017, Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will join the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. They present a special program featuring music from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, combining arrangements by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The two ensembles will together play a selection from Wynton Marsalis’ Swing Symphony. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Starting April 25 until April 27, the Grammy-award winning conductor Giancarlo Guerrero will lead three concerts over the three days. These performances will feature arrangements by John Adams, Dmitri Shostakovich, Duke Ellington and Wynton Marsalis.
