Best St. Louis Pizza

St. Louis style may not be what you're used to, but try it, you'll like it! Many local eateries also offer Chicago style, authentic Italian and more! Check out our guide to the finest pizza in St. Louis.

St. Louis Style Pizza

A discussion about pizza in St. Louis must begin with Imo's, a classic st. louis-style favorite. Imo's pizza is so beloved that many people have had pie's shipped as far as either coast. Their thin, crunchy crust with homemade sauce and tangy provel cheese is truly addictive. With countless locations throughout the St. Louis area, delivery is their forte, but several spots provide the option to eat in, as well. Click here for locations.

Sample a slice of the “real” St. Louis at Rigazzi's. A long-time favorite for casual dinners on The Hill, it serves pizza (its St. Louis-style pizza was voted one of the USA 's best pizzas by Bon Appetit Magazine) with its famous “frozen fishbowl” – a huge goblet of ice cold beer.

Balducci's Winefest is a tucked-away restaurant in the West Port area of St. Louis with hearty Italian fare and house-bottled wine. More like a wine grotto than anything else, the dining room is decorated to celebrate the harvesting of the grape and all that that entails. If you've not yet tried the local version of thin crust pizza, do so here. These pies are quintessentially St. Louis. Other menu favorites include white bean chili, cannelloni and lasagna.

Farotto's Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria is a long-time favorite with local residents. In addition to St. Louis style pizza, the menu offers a large selection of pastas, plus several entrée and sandwich choices.

Chicago Style Pizza

When President Obama visited St. Louis in the thick of his presidential election in 2008, he dined on pizza from Pi in University City and enjoyed it so much that he had it delivered to the White House once in office. Whatever your politics, there's no denying its pure deliciousness. Offering both deep dish and thin crust, Pi is the pizza to beat in St. Louis. They also boast eco-friendly business practices and a seriously superior selection of adult beverages.

Waits for a deep dish pie at Black Thorn Pub in the Tower Grove neighborhood can reach up to two hours, but most will tell you its well worth it. Rocking a thicker than thick crust, perfectly spiced tomato sauce and no-frill toppings to compliment this gargantuan, you really don't have to ask why it takes so long to serve up this bad boy. With it's neighborhood pub/pool hall vibe, odds are you can find some way to pass the time at this local favorite. Pin ball, anyone?

A Category all Their Own

A visit to Katie's Pizzeria in Clayton is like a casual dinner party at a girlfriend's eclectic apartment. Open 11 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, Katie's offers chewy thin crust pie's with such toppings as fennel sausage, leeks, smoked salmon, fingerling potatoes, squash blossoms and more. Don't let the unique toppings scare you, they offer the basis as well, but you'd be hard pressed to find a pizza you don't adore.

At Guido's Pizzeria & Tapas delicious pizza and Italian staples are offered. The owners came here from Madrid and established smaller pizza restaurants around town before they fell in love with their current location on Shaw Avenue. Guido's extensive hours of operation (seven days a week) and convenient location adjacent to I-44 make it the perfect stop after a day at the nearby Missouri Botanical Gardens or following a game at the Busch Stadium.

Locally owned Racanelli's serves up some of the best New York style pizza you'll find this far from the Hudson. With several locations throughout the St. Louis area, their Loop location was recently refurbished and offers a comfortable family-friendly dine-in atmosphere.

A family favorite, Dewey's Pizza offers pizza with a light thin crust and a heap of toppings at their locations in Kirkwood, Clayton and Chesterfield. Although the menu includes original salads and massive calzones, most popular are, of course, the pizzas. Choose between your favorite toppings or from Dewey's menu of specialty pizzas.

Il Vincino in the heart of downtown Clayton serves up a large selection of truly great wood oven pizzas with pitch-perfect toppings.
