About Grant's Farm

In the 1850s, Ulysses S. Grant farmed a portion of the 281 acres that make up Grant's Farm, home to more than 1,000 animals representing more than 100 different species. Operated by Anheuser-Busch, Grant's Farm has been a St. Louis tradition for more than five decades—entertaining children and families and promoting wildlife conservation for all that time. 

Admission is free to Grant's Farm, making it one of St. Louis' most budget and family-friendly attractions.

Grant’s Farm Attractions

Tram Ride

Upon entering the property, visitors board a tram for a tour that includes the historic log cabin President Grant built and lived in for three short months in the fall of 1856. The cabin has an interesting history, and during Living History Weekends guests are allowed inside the cabin.

After viewing Grant's Cabin, the tram will ride through Deer Park, which is home to a wide variety of exotic roaming animals and several beautiful lakes. This is truly were the buffalo roam!

The Tier Garten

Tier Garten translates to “small animal garden” and once you and your family disembark in the Tier Garten there is much to see and do. Grant's Farm encourages guests to get closer to animals. Feed the famous and beloved Pygmy goats from a bottle, encounter other magnificent animals, like African elephants, llamas, camels and more.

The Bauernhof

Bauernhof translates to barn house or farmstead. The Bauernhof was the very first building built on the property in 1911. In Germany, the Bauernhof is known as the heart of the home. The Bauernhof at Grant's Farm is a beautiful setting in which to enjoy a meal. Feast on brats, fries and other goodies, while the adults can enjoy free samples from the entire line of Anheuser-Busch products

Check out the Carriage Room to the right of the magnificent clock tower. Though the apartments around the Bauernhof were originally lived in by care-takers and relatives, the carriage house was built specifically for carriages. It is massive and beautifully decorated in wood paneling and brick. During the holidays the carriage room is used to visit with St. Nick.

World Famous Clydesdale Stables

This is the original home and breeding farm for the world famous Clydesdales. The horses are housed inside the stables, and roam freely in the pastures. There are approximately 35 mares, stallions, and foals housed here, with twelve to fifteen colts born yearly.

Inside the stables, find interesting facts about the Clydesdales including a comparison to a regular horse. Have your picture taken with a “gentle giant” or treat yourself and wander along the path out to the grounds and see the babies and other horses. There are also grounds keepers who can answer any questions about these beautiful horses.

Grant's Farm: Where to Shop

Grant's Farm gift shops are conveniently located throughout the Farm, featuring an extensive selection of merchandise. 

After visiting the Clydesdale Stables, you can browse the Label Stable Gift Shop, which specializes in Budweiser Clydesdale-themed items.

The Xcursions Gift Shop is Grant's Farm's newest shopping experience, promising a unique showcase of products that offer a welcome perspective on the web of life. 

Shop for collectibles, souvenirs and gift items at the General's Store, located just inside the entrance of Grant's Farm. Here you'll fine a large selection of Grant's Farm and Anheuser-Busch logoed apparel.

Featuring an eclectic array of quaint items, like quilts, knick-knacks, plus snacks and drinks, Grant's Farm Gifts is located just off the courtyard.

Located behind the Elephant Amphitheater, the Elephant Gift Cart is the place to shop for gifts and fun, elephant-oriented items.

Grant's Trail: Biking/Walking Trail

Enjoy one of the city's most beautiful trails where you can ride, walk or roller blade on 8.2 miles (one way) of flat, paved path. This trail is located behind residential homes, an athletic complex and outlying pastures of Grant's Farm. You will also ride or walk by Grant's Farm and the famous Clydesdale horse yards. During the summer months, look for the sno-cone stand, which offers a fun way to cool off. This trail is free and open to the public. Parking is available at Whitecliff Park, Tesshire Drive, or Reavis Barracks Road.

Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site

Once known as White Haven, the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site was the family home of Grant's wife Julia Dent and where the couple first met before Grant rose to fame with his military victories and Presidency. Free tours of the Main House are usually offered every 30 minutes beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day, and continuing until roughly 4 p.m. There are also interactive activities, a short video, and a book store.
